"IN FLANDERS FIELDS THE POPPIES BLOW..." These opening words of Col. John McCrae's immortal poem are known to every child in the United States. Dedicated to the memory of the men who fought and died in France during World War I, the Poppies of which he wrote have become the true symbol of all those who have given their lives in our nation's wars. The Poppy has become recognized as the memorial flower in countries throughout the world. It is distributed by veterans organizations in Europe, in America, and in most countries in the British Commonwealth.
Coming home doesn't mean the battle is over. With over 10 times the amount of veterans lost to suicide than to combat operations in the same time period, there has never been a more important time to TAKE A STAND and DO something to support our veterans!! If you or someone you know is suffering from PTSD, we have people that have shared a similar experience and are ready to help.
Those three words reverently dictate what you can be, what you will be. ~ Douglas MacArthur
The Veterans of Foreign Wars was originally founded in 1899 as the American Veterans of Foreign Service, the VFW continues to be a voice for veterans, currently deployed members of our Armed Forces and their families.
MESSAGE FROM OUR STATE COMMANDER TONY PURDY
VISION FOR THE VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS
We will strive to ensure veterans are respected for their service, receive their earned entitlements and are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made on behalf of this great country. And to ensure their children spouse ‘orphans and widows are taken care of this year, our special project is the Florida cottage in Eaton Rapids MI at the VFW National home for Children. The home is where families left behind by war can remain together, keeping the family circle intact even when the serviceman or women didn’t come home
To leverage values of Commitment, Excellence, Integrity, and Selfless Service to strengthen our dedication of advocating for our veterans.
Together We Can!!!
Tony H. Purdy
State Commander, Department of Florida VFW
Al Lugo has won $150.00 in Amber's pick three numbers contest.
He has put out a challenge to everyone to donate the winnings back to Amber.
Al did, any takers will be welcome.
You were not alone over there. You are not alone now. There are 20 million veterans who would give their lives for you. Please don't take yours.
Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.
- Winston Churchill
It is well that war is so terrible, else we should grow too fond of it.
