Gene is a VFW Gold Legacy Life Member and a Cootie member of pup tent 23. In 2014 he was elected Quartermaster to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Florida. He became the Adjutant/Quartermaster in 2015. Gene served as Assistant to the Adjutant/Quartermaster of the Department of Florida from 2011-2014

District 7 Commander from 2010-2011 and has been a Post Commander for a cumulative of 6 years of service to both VFW Post 4864 Citrus Springs & VFW Post 10087 Beverly Hills.

Gene served in the Army from 1977-1999 both as enlisted and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer. Assignments with the 24th Infantry Division 2 tours, 101st Airborne Division, 2nd Infantry Division, Korea, 7th Corps Germany, 17thAviation, Korea, Training with Industry program in Columbus Ohio with UPS and the Combined Arms Support Command in Virginia. 

Gene’s awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, 4 Meritorious Service Medal Awards, 4 Army Commendation Medal Awards, Army Achievement Awards, Korean Service Medal, SWA Service Medal, with 2 Bronze Stars, Liberation of Kuwait Medal, Gene received the Ordnance Order of Samuel Shape Award in 1999, was named Warrant Officer of the year in 2001, The USAWOA Eagle Rising Gold Level Medal in 2007 only the second one ever awarded at that time among numinous other awards.

Gene has been recognized numerous times for his service to Veterans through the VFW, including the honors as All American Department Quartermaster numinous times, All American Post Commander, All State District Commander and as an All-State Post Commander (5 years). Gene is the Chairman of the National Adjutant/Quartermaster Association, Chairman of the Southern Conference Audit Committee, State Director of VFWRG Group and Director of District 7 VFWRG. Additionally, Gene served on the Board of Directors of the United Army Warrant Officers Association for a total of 28 years.

Gene and his wife Kathy have 2 sons and 6 grandchildren.
