W. Benny Bachand was elected to represent Florida on the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Council of Administration at the VFW Department of Florida State Convention in Orlando, Fl on June 23, 2018.  He will serve a four - year term.

He joined the United States Navy in 1966 and served on the USS Ault (DD-698) is Southeast Asia from February 1967 to September 1967.  Bachand was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal in recognition of his service.

A Legacy Life member of Post 4287, Orlando, Fl., Bachand has been active in veterans affairs since 1967 and became one of the organization’s youngest Post Commanders in 1972.  He served as Florida’s District 18 Commander, and as Department Surgeon. Bachand was appointed to the VFW National Headquarters staff in September 1977.  He served twenty-five years and in 2002 retired as Assistant Adjutant General – Programs.  Bachand served as Adjutant/Quartermaster for the Department of Florida from 2003 – 2011.  He also served as Department Inspector, Department Judge Advocate and Chairman of Department Budget & Finance.

Bachand was appointed Inspector General of the VFW in 2008 and has served as Chairman, National Budget & Finance Committee and currently serves as the Chairman, National by-law study Committee.

He holds an associate degree in business administration.  He is a past president, Ocala Rotary Club, President, Board of Directors, Disabled Veterans National Foundation and a member of the U.S. Golf Association.

Benny resides in Ocala, Fl with his wife Teresa and has two sons and three grandchildren in Kansas City, MO.
