Matthew "Shannon" Rousey was elected to the position of State Surgeon at the June 2024 VFW Department of Florida State Convention.
Shannon has been a member of the VFW for over 10 years. He has been in elected positions for 9 of the years. He is a gold Legacy member and a Life Member of VFW Post 4174 in Lehigh Acres, Florida. Shannon has been an All-State and All American as a VFW Post Commander and a Quartermaster as well as an All State and All American District Commander.
Shannon served in the US Army and is a Desert Storm Veteran. He also did an enlistment as a M1 Tank Crewman with the rank of E-4.
After serving Shannon went back to school and is now the owner and operator of a successful appliance repair company.
Shannon and his wife Buffy live in Lehigh Acres, Florida and share 6 children and 5 grandchildren and is expecting one more grandchild this year.
