Mike Clinesmith
Chief of Staff - Marines

Mike was appointed to the position of Chief of Staff of the State Commander at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Florida 87th Annual State Convention in Orlando, Florida.

Mike joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW Post 9226, Ellenton, Florida in 2004.

He joined the United States Marine Corps in March 1972 and retired as an MSgt in November 1994 after 22 years of Service.  His decorations include Navy Commendation Medal (2 Awards), Navy Achievement Medal (3 Awards), National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6 Awards), Korean Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2 Awards), Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Arctic Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Recruiter Ribbon, Drill Instructor Ribbon and several letters of commendation and Meritorious Masts.

After retiring from the Marine Corps Mike resided in Jacksonville, North Carolina where he attended Coastal Carolina Community College and earned a Degree in Business. Mike managed several of his own businesses until 2002 when he moved to Bradenton, Florida and became active in several service organizations.

Mike is a Life Member of the VFW, Life Member of the American Legion, Life Member of the Marine Corps League and Life Member of Disabled American Veterans.  He has served in the VFW as District 10 Commander, District 10 Quartermaster, Post 10141 Commander for 3 years, Post Service Officer for 8 years, and Post Quartermaster for 3 years.  He has also served as American Legion Post 24 Commander and Marine Corps League Detachment 588 Commandant and CCDB of Cooties Pup Tent 17 for two years. 

He was also selected as Veteran of the Year for Manatee County in 2008 and continuously strives to assist veterans throughout the community.

Mike and Susan reside in Bradenton, Florida and they have 5 children between them as well as 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild
